May 27 Wednesday
We have a wide assortment of food available. Bags with staple items are pre-filled, but we will gladly add any special requests if they are available. When you visit, there is always a simple lunch. On the last Wednesday of every month, we serve a pretty darned good hot meal with salad and a huge table filled with pies and desserts. We call it a community lunch. All are welcomed.

Stretch your legs in the comfort of morning temperatures while hearing the stories of the people who transformed a gold rush town into the 19th century center of regional government, commerce, and society when you join Historic Jacksonville, Inc. on one of our weekly Saturday 1-hour guided “Walk through History” tours. Tours leave from Jacksonville’s New City Hall at 10am and cover about 1 mile with multiple stops. Guests hear how gambling money built a church; how the Civil War ended a successful mercantile partnership; how a saloon housed the county’s first museum; how fire reshaped the town; and how a railroad both destroyed and preserved the town. Tours are FREE, but donations are always welcomed—all monies go towards maintaining and preserving historic buildings seen on the tour.
Get a taste of the "old West" and Jacksonville's gold mining days when you step behind the counter of the oldest financial institution in the Pacific Northwest. The 1863 Beekman Bank Museum, located at 110 W. California Street in Jacksonville, saw over $40 million in gold cross its counters during the town’s heyday in the late 1800s—the equivalent of over $1.5 billion today. Interact with costumed docents sharing stories of late 19th Century banking practices, gold shipping, and handshake deals; step behind the counter and peer in drawers containing old checks, stage schedules, and paperwork; enter the vault that stored all those millions in gold! Admission is FREE but donations are encouraged with all monies going towards the preservation and maintenance of this historic legacy!
All are welcome to enjoy a delightful evening of social dancing at the North Bayside Grange on Saturday, May 30th, from 6-8:30pm. Dance to great live music and skilled calling. This friendly community gathering is open to singles and couples. Join the fun at the Bay Area Family Contra Dance, featuring hours of congenial social dance. This monthly event is sponsored by the South Coast Folk Society. It’s a light-hearted community gathering appropriate for teens and adults. This event is free, and new dancers are always welcome. No prior experience or partner is required at this alcohol- and fragrance-free event.
Contra Dancing is fun, and easy to learn, like an old-time barn dance. It’s a delightful way to socialize to beautiful, uplifting music. Come swing your partner and do-si-do to the fantastic music of the Outstanding Open Band. Popular callers Lorie Bunyard and Stacy Rose will provide a lesson for new dancers at 6:00pm, and expert calling all evening. Wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes. Please join us on the dance floor, or relax and enjoy fine music.
Many thanks to the North Bayside Grange, a wonderful dance venue, for hosting the monthly Bay Area Contra Dances. The center is open to all ages and is located at 67577 E Bay Road, North Bend, just across the bridge, in Glasgow. Save the date. Doors open at 5:45, and a $5 donation would be much appreciated.
