The Ashland City Council approved a resolution Tuesday night that could make way for a new Jackson County jail. Previously, Ashland was the only city in Jackson County blocking the plan.

At Coquille Point along the remote and rugged southern Oregon Coast, the wind is tumultuous and the sea just as violent. Huge waves crash up against the giant, moss-cloaked rocks perched off the beach.

This particular stretch of the Oregon coastline is famous for being pristine and wild. But train your eyes down a little closer to the beach and sand as Angela Haseltine Pozzi so often does, and even here you'll find bits of plastic.

"I think the most disturbing thing I find is detergent bottles and bleach bottles with giant bite marks out of them by fish," she says.

The Oregon Health Authority has identified three additional cases of severe lung illness linked to vaping.

The state has now seen a total of 20 cases of EVALI — what health officials are referring to as 'E-cigarette or Vaping Product Associated Lung Injury.' Two cases have been fatal.

The latest three cases have come after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified vitamin E acetate, a thickening agent, as one possible cause.

The CDC said other causes may emerge as research continues.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the lead investigator in the impeachment inquiry of President Trump, says the House Intelligence Committee's report "shows abundant evidence" that Trump used the power of his office to "condition official acts" in exchange for political favors.

In other words, the California Democrat says Trump met a threshold set forth in the Constitution that says a president can be impeached and removed from office for committing treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Sitting next to each other with cameras rolling on Tuesday, President Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron made their differences known on trade, Turkey, Russia, ISIS and the appropriate role for NATO.

Early on in the extended exchange between the leaders of two of the most significant powers in the NATO alliance, Trump expressed confidence that their personal connection could overcome policy disagreements.

"That's usually the case with the two of us," Trump said. "We get it worked out."

A blazing haystack puts out a ton of heat and light, and smells like a big cigar.

Early Saturday morning, Nov. 30, in Washington's Tri-Cities region, a haystack was set alight north of Pasco in Franklin County. The fire was called in by an air traffic controller at the Tri-Cities airport in Pasco who could see it from miles away.

It was the year 2000 in the Oregon coast town of Coquille when 15-year-old Leah Freeman went missing and was soon after found dead.

The case went cold for almost a decade before Nicholas McGuffin, Freeman’s boyfriend at the time of her death, was indicted for her murder, without any evidence connecting him to the crime.

House Republicans are pushing back against the impeachment investigation into President Trump, writing in a 123-page report that Democrats have not proven "evidence of bribery, extortion, or any high crime or misdemeanor."

The letter is a prebuttal to the Intelligence Committee's impeachment inquiry report, which is expected to be released Tuesday ahead of an evening committee meeting on its conclusions. A House Intelligence Committee official said this evening that report was now available for members to review.

Incomes are rising in Oregon, as portrayed by several sets of numbers.  In fact, the state's median income rose above the national median for the first time in 50 years, according to state government economists.

The Oregon Center for Public Policy released its own report recently, and it shows most of the income gains going to the top earners, with slow growth in earnings for most workers.  Can both sets of numbers be correct?

The pre-Thanksgiving storm not only blocked highways with snow, it created a sidebar problem: people looking for alternate routes.

While it's true that the official maps often indicate "seek alternate routes," mountainous areas often do not have good alternatives.  But travelers will ask their phones and other devices to find a different way to proceed, and the devices will direct them down roads that are in even worse shape than the main roads.
