Jan 24 Saturday
The North Bend Public Library will host a free five-week gardening series for beginners starting Saturday, January 10, from 10:00–11:30 AM. Taught by Master Gardeners™ Lynn Menashian and Mary Jo Audette, this series introduces adults to the essential skills needed to begin and maintain a successful garden on the Oregon Coast and will provide participants with foundational knowledge tailored specifically to Coos County’s climate and growing conditions. Topics include local microclimates, soil preparation, seed and plant selection, seed starting and planting techniques, transplanting, watering, and fertilization. Each class in the series is independent in topic and content, allowing participants to attend any or all sessions. The series is free and designed for adults with little to no gardening experience.
Join Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center (MSBEC) and Heart Path Field Writing Institute for a nature writing workshop where we will nourish joy and delight. Workshop leaders Evonne Ellis, MFA in Creative Writing and owner of The Heart Path, and MSBEC’s Community Education Coordinator, Kayla Marie, will guide us through writing prompts that will connect us with presence, wonder, and being amidst our busy world of doing. As always, we will have time to reflect and share as a community. No writing experience necessary! All ages are welcome at this event. Registration is required to attend: https://mountshastaecology.org/upcoming-community-events-2/
The Ying Quartet will perform at Curry Public Library on Saturday, January 24 at 2pm. This performance is free to the public and made possible by generous funding from the Tammis Day Foundation. Seating is first come, first served. The event is co-sponsored by the Britt Orchestra Festival.
The Ying Quartet comprises Robin Scott and Janet Ying, violins; Phillip Ying, viola; and David Ying, cello. They will perform works by Joseph Haydn, Billy Childs, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
The popular A Story Aloud returns with its signature sound effects, music, and professional actors presenting a staged reading of the short story "The Bookstore Sisters" by Alice Hoffman. Hosted by actor Barret O’Brien, A STORY ALOUD is a celebration of the twin beauties of riveting prose and thriving public libraries.
All skill levels are welcome to join us for this fiber arts crafting hour. Bring your knitting, crocheting, or other fiber arts project for an hour of crafting camaraderie at the library. Supplies will also be provided for a simple knit or crochet craft for those looking to learn a new project. This group meets the fourth Saturday of the month.
Welcome to the Winter of Rebellion
Our after-hours speakeasy-style series where wine flows, jazz smolders, and comedy keeps things dangerously fun through the winter months. We’re hosting a rotating lineup of intimate nights filled with live jazz, stand-up comedy, and that underground energy you didn’t know you needed this season.
Each evening has its own personality — some nights smooth and soulful, others laugh-out-loud ridiculous — but every night will be one to remember!
Here’s how it works
Show up hungry and ready to relax into sultry jazz music or to laugh so hard you have to try not to spit your wine everywhere.
Comedy Nights
A ticket price of $25 per person will be charged at the door on comedy nights to support our local artists. Please no children. 21+ only. These jokes will not be family friendly.
Jazz Nights
Jazz nights are free to attend. These nights are meant for everyone. Perfect for families.
Reservations are appreciated. Walk-ins are always welcome
