The Langlois Lions are hosting the third annual “rummage” sale with many items above rummage level, more like second-quality goods. August 14th and 15th Friday and Saturday 9 am- 4pmat the club house 48136 Floras Lake Loop. The place is easy to find. From the north, cross over the bridge just south of Langlois and take the first right- signage banner visible. From the south , take the second turn to the left on to Floras Lake Lp. The building is just a few l blocks away and very visible once turned on to Loop road.The sale features excellent household and glass wear items and a wide variety of other enticing items such as equipment for carding wool, for example . Most of these will be displayed our mini-store on site: the Lion’s Den. Vendors are presenting mostly their own goods for sale. There is one outside vendor with 5 tables of second hand stuff including nice tables and furniture.There is room for more vendors and donations. We are unable to accept big items such as refrigerators etc. Otherwise, local pick-up is available. In the past, this event has been very successful and had helped replenish our funding for such things as eye exams and glasses and hearing testing and aides for those who meet the low income requirement and live in Port Orford or Langlois area. School children are also tested each year with the club paying for the rental of the special cameras. Finally, maybe. in the spirit of summer cleaning, you have come across a pair of old glasses, cell phones or hearing aides. Please donate them to our club, There are collection boxes at the Langlois Post Office and Library and the Port Orford Library. Join Lori Grable for a Beginning Yoga class! This class is open to anyone who is interested in trying out yoga for the first time or wants a refresher yoga class after a layoff. Come with comfortable clothes, a yoga mat and water bottle. New students can arrive at 10:15.
Instructor Bio: Lori began her yoga journey in 2000 as a student at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. She was drawn to the practice because it helped her to reconnect with her most authentic self while making her stronger and more open, physically and mentally. Her passion for yoga grew stronger as she traveled around the United States during the summer of 2003, practicing at many studios along the way. After settling in Pittsburgh, PA, she completed her teacher training and began teaching in 2006.
Today, Lori is an E-RYT 500 and teaches Vinyasa-based classes. She is influenced by the philosophy and alignment principles of Anusara Yoga. As a triathlete, Lori has an interest in yoga for athletes and has taught many workshops on the topic. She has a passion for the outdoors and has taught yoga in parks, vineyards, and backyards. Lori appreciates the healing and restorative qualities of yoga and has also worked with students who are recovering from illness, rehabilitating injuries, pregnant, or elderly.
Dual-resident painter and San Francisco Art Institute alum Patricia Schaefer- Robbins will debut a concurrent solo exhibitions at Nous Restaurant.
The exhibition brings a unique global perspective to Ashland’s art scene. Splitting time betweenstudios in Ashland and London, England, Schaefer-Robbins uses oil and acrylic to weave togetherbotanical themes, still life, pagan traditions, and ancient lore.
At Nous Restaurant, visitors will get an exclusive look at mythical and ritualistic works, including"Offering," and pieces from an ambitious new series of larger-scale panels exploring goddessmythology, such as "Court of the Autumn Equinox" and "Song of the Green Woods."
Cultivating Companions: Growing Together Through Plants, 18+ YRS
Join the Jackson County Master Gardeners to learn about indoor plants and develop skills you can take to your outside gardens. Have fun making garden art and meeting new friends in your area! Participants can come to any of the seven classes in this series, or attend them all!
Week 1 (Aug. 7): Houseplant CareJoin the Master Gardeners to learn about basic houseplant care. Get hands on practice potting up a plant to take home and add to your home!
Week 2 (Aug. 14): Plant PropagationJoin the Master Gardeners to learn the ins and outs of propagating your plants by stem and leaf cutting. Practice the techniques with us and take home your plant cuttings!
Week 3 (Aug. 21): Plant Poetry and Floral DesignLet your creative side shine in this class with Master Gardeners. Poetry can be intimidating to try, but we will guide you through a model that is easy for beginners to practice. Learn and practice your floral design skills, building a bud vase design you can take to brighten your home!
Week 4 (Aug. 28): Growing Herbs and MicrogreensJoin the Master Gardeners to learn about growing herbs and microgreens indoors for year-round fresh food. Start a container of herbs from seed and a tray of microgreen to take home and add to your kitchen windowsill!
Week 5 (Sep. 4): Pressed FlowersLet your creative side shine in this class with Master Gardeners. Learn about pressing flowers and get some ideas of what art can be made using pressed flowers. Design and take home a bookmark and clear frame with your flower design!
Week 6 (Sep. 11): Plant PestsJoin the Master Gardeners to learn about those pesky pests that can attack our plants. Learn some tips to identify and manage common pests.
Week 7 (Sep. 18): Dried Herbs and Tea PartyFall is the season to harvest all your herbs and preserve them for seasonings. Join the Master Gardeners to learn ways to dry and store your herbs and enjoy a warm cup of tea. Take home some herbs to dry at home and your tea mug
All are welcome to experience the joy of folk dancing, and enjoy wonderful live music Friday, March 13, and every second Friday throughout the year, in North Bend. The North Bend Public Library invites everyone to join the fun starting at 6:00 Friday evening in their newly remodeled Activity Room. This is a special series of free public dances. The North Bend Public Library, in partnership with the South Coast Folk Society, invites everyone to join the fun starting at 6:00 Friday evening, January 9th, in their Activity Room. This is the first in a series, so you don’t want to miss it. Folk Dance Night at the Library will be a regular monthly offering every second Friday at 6:00.
This free, social gathering is open to new and experienced dancers. Dance to live music from around the world played by skilled local musicians. Beautiful, beginner-friendly dances will be taught throughout the evening. They are fun to do, and easy to learn. If you can walk, you can folk dance, and folk dancing is so much more fun. Don’t be shy, give it a try.
There’s plenty of room for dancing in the spacious, newly remodeled, North Bend Library Activity Room. And, there is room to sit and enjoy live music when you take a moment to rest. Plus there will be refreshments available during the band break.This is an alcohol-free and fragrance-free public event. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Learn about the ghosts that still linger in Jacksonville’s historic district while learning a little history about the buildings, their occupants, and life in a gold rush town. Join Historic Jacksonville, Inc. for a very “spirited evening” on a guided Haunted History walking tour. Tours leave from the Jacksonville Visitors Center at the corner of North Oregon and C streets and last about 1 hour. Choose from 2 different tours each night. The Courthouse route features brothels, epidemics, and hangings. The Britt Hill tour highlights murder, arson, saloons, and Oregon’s oldest Chinatown. And both tours have lots of haunted houses!
