Instructor Bio: Laurie Finear has been a music teacher in the Rogue Valley for over 15 years as a certified Music Together teacher. She now creates and teaches her own music classes for children and their caregivers in Ashland and Jacksonville. She is passionate about sharing the joy of music with children and families.

We are a Zen practice community in the Diamond Sangha lineage founded by Robert Aitken Rōshi. We provide zazen(meditation) instruction, weekly zazen, practice talks, Dharma discussions and more.

Over the next two days, we’ll examine real cases (local and national), explore modern investigative techniques, and hear from experts in forensics, psychology, and victim advocacy. We will learn, we will question, and maybe even find a few answers.

While true crime can be compelling, we remain grounded in one principle: respect for the victims and their stories always comes first.

Enjoy a local celebration of World Bird Migratory Day on Saturday, May 16th, 8 am – Noon at North Mountain Park Nature Center in Ashland. Rogue Valley Bird Day will include educational exhibits from local bird interest groups and more, as well as fun all-ages activities.

Adult and children’s binoculars will be available for checkout, with bird walks leaving every 15-30 minutes. These easy walks travel along the park’s bark-chipped trails, or along the accessible, paved bike path. Visitors may also sit down and enjoy the bird watching from the covered pavilion.
This year’s event is coordinated by Klamath Bird Observatory, Rogue Valley Audubon Society, and Ashland Parks and Recreation. The theme “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter,” highlights the importance of citizen birding science.

Crafts, games, and a self-guided activity booklet will be on hand for kids to learn about birds and earn prizes. At 11am all ages are invited to compete in the annual Bird Calling Contest and “Name that Bird” contest. Join us for a day of birding fun!

Starting May 3, the heart of downtown Ashland will be home to the Saturday Market, running every Saturday until October 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Oak St. This exclusive one block long market provides healthy options, fresh organic produce, artisan foods, and more every week for the locals and travelers passing through. Time travel with Historic Jacksonville, Inc. back to 1900 for a “retro” tour of “Daily Life Then and Now: 1900 vs. 2026.” Guided 45-minute tours compare the differences in communication, fashion, etiquette, entertainment, chores, household “amenities,” and much more – things we take for granted like electricity, running water, and…bathrooms!
