Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Moving Pictures: A Survey Exhibition of Works by Deborah Oropallo and Collaborators." Opening April 18 at 5 p.m., the exhibition invites art enthusiasts to delve into the captivating world of Deborah Oropallo and witness her artistic evolution spanning montage, sculpture, installation, and media work.
More than just a retrospective, "Moving Pictures" amplifies Oropallo's artistic journey, shedding light on her significant contributions to contemporary art. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1954, Oropallo received her BFA from Alfred University and her MA/MFA from the University of California at Berkeley. Initially trained as a painter, she seamlessly integrates mixed media techniques such as photomontage, video, printmaking, and painting into her practice.

In this introductory class, each class will have a short instruction time, a demonstration, followed by practice time with help from the instructor. The students will work through a sketch book which includes lessons, practice pages, and each week’s drawing assignment. At the end of the course the sketch book will serve as the students ‘textbook’ and will showcase all they learned.
Though their names have been largely forgotten, indigenous and pioneering women were involved in plant knowledge, exploration, and cultivation from the earliest days of our country. Join us as we uncover the names and contributions of these remarkable heroines of days gone by.
Classically trained at the UCLA Landscape Architecture program, presenter Lucretia Weems is a Jackson County Master Gardener and has been designing gardens in the Rogue Valley for over 15 years. Her lectures on history and landscape design have been enjoyed around Jackson County and her first book, This Wild Life, Heroines in the History of Botany 1650-1850, was published in 2023.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.

The test we are offering is a saliva test. It does not hurt, but you cannot eat or drink anything for 30 minutes before taking the test to make sure the test can be processed.

Here in the shadow of Mount Shasta, we love to play outside. Between the mountains, rivers, and lakes we have an abundance of natural places to explore, enjoy, and steward. Preserving our natural recreation areas requires collaboration, planning, and intention. We are gearing up for a new chapter of recreation planning this spring. Our recreation coalition is thinking about everything from trail stewardship and seasonal roadway access to building climate resiliency to establishing more ways to connect communities to each other.
