Imagine your life without a smart phone—or for that matter any phone at all. What about no computer or internet connection? TV or radio? Time travel with Historic Jacksonville, Inc. back to 1900 for a “retro” tour of “Daily Life Then and Now: 1900 vs. 2026.” Guided 45-minute tours compare the differences in communication, fashion, etiquette, entertainment, chores, household “amenities,” and much more – things we take for granted like electricity, running water, and…bathrooms!
Tours begin every 20-30 minutes between 12n and 3pm at the 1870s C.C. Beekman House, located at 470 E. California Street in Jacksonville, Oregon. Tour admission is $8 (cash or check at the door). You’ll find more information at https://historicjacksonville.org/then-and-now/.
All proceeds go towards maintenance of Jacksonville’s historic buildings and the programs and events that bring them to life and make them relevant for people today.

🛠 Repair Café is back in Eureka on Sunday, May 17! 🛠
👖 The Repair Café is an international movement that connects skilled volunteers with community members who have broken items in need of a second life, which keeps useful items out of the landfill and in our homes where they belong. If you have a broken lamp waiting to be fixed or a hole in your favorite jeans waiting to be patched, bring them on down for a FREE repair to the ADORNI CENTER, 1011 Waterfront Drive from 10am-2pm on Sunday, May 17.
▶ Items must be small enough to be carried by yourself, and you must take them home at the end of the event. If you have the materials for the repair, please bring them. Examples of items to bring include; bikes, laptops, lamps, clothing, jewelry, stereo, small wooden furniture, and more!

Join Dr. Lue Douthit, Director of Research & Practice at Play On Shakespeare, and Michael P Jensen, Contributing Editor of The Shakespeare Newsletter, for an engaging series of three talks on the Shakespeare plays produced by The Oregon Shakespeare Festival in 2026. Meetings are every third Monday in March, April, and May.

This talk is designed as a prep before seeing the OSF production of The Taming of the Shrew. Should this play even be produced? The always impractical Mike Jensen looks at that problem and the differences between the early printed texts of this play. Passages of a version by an anonymous writer are sometimes incorporated into productions of Shakespeare’s Shrew. Lue Douthit focuses on what the play is made of. How do production teams translate those components to our contemporary theater practice? She will work through a general outline of the play and give tips on what to look and listen for when seeing the production.
