Sunflowers and Solidarity Barn Benefit fundraiser to support Ukrainian families living in the Rogue Valley is planned for Sunday, May 31st from 2-6 PM at The Red Barn at 2770 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, Oregon. The event will feature live music by 33 String Drive Bluegrass band, performing a special tribute to Maddox Brothers and Rose - the celebrated hillbilly swing band of the 1950s and 60s, which included local residents Rose and Don Maddox. Caller Kayla Blanchflower will lead a square dance with instruction for all skill levels. Additional highlights include a pie and cake auction, Ukrainian crafts and treats, and opportunities to meet members of the local Ukrainian community. A no-host bar will offer beer and wine; non-alcoholic beverages and light refreshments will also be available.
Proceeds from the Sunflowers & Solidarity Barn Benefit will support 21 Ukrainian families who have resettled in the Rogue Valley as a result of the ongoing Russian invasion. Many of these families face significant financial hardship due to delays and new fees in the immigration process, including lengthy work-permit renewals and substantial application and approval costs. Contributions will help cover urgent expenses such as immigration fees, basic living needs, and integration support.
Tickets for Sunflowers and Solidarity Barn Benefit are $50 and can be purchased at Music Coop at 268 E. Main St, Ashland or online at UnitingforUkraineRV.org
