The Jacksonville Garden Club’s annual Spring Sale will be held on Saturday, May 9th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Post Office on Oregon Street in downtown Jacksonville. Enjoy beautiful arrangements made from fresh-cut flowers in a range of prices—for Mother’s Day or a nice gift to yourself or a friend. Plants and lovely handmade cards will also be available. The popular bake sale returns this year, featuring sweets and treats made by Club members—also a nice option for Mother’s Day delight. There is something for everyone at the Spring Sale!
Funds raised go to support local students’ scholarships as well as educational activities at the Jacksonville Elementary School. The Club’s funds and its members’ volunteer energies support numerous local beautification projects in Jacksonville.
The 76th Annual Grants Pass Rotary Track Meet, presented by Les Schwab Tire Centers, will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Grants Pass High School, on Russ Warner Field. Top athletes from fifty high schools across Oregon will compete. Admission gates open at 8:30 a.m. and the events commence at 10:00 a.m. Food trucks and refreshments will be available. Bring your sunscreen and have an entertaining, exciting day!

Located at 5845 Humboldt Hill Road, our doors will be open to the public between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Over the Mother's Day Weekend the Grange Hall will be filled with a wide variety of succulents, houseplants, flowers, vegetables, and much much more. Along with a generous selection of seeds to share.
The Humboldt Grange is also seeking donations of plants for the sale, and for volunteers to help with the event. Even a couple of hours of your time goes a long way.

Retired former Wildland Firefighter District and current wildfire insurance company consultant, Miranda Stuart, will present property owners with facts and strategies on living in wildfire communities and how to mitigate risk for wildfires. Through her years of direct wildland firefighting experience, she will share best practices for protecting property as well as insights into insurance issues facing property owners in a high wildfire communities.
Speaker Bio: Miranda detailed to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as their National Critical Incident Stress Management and Mental Health Coordinator and served as the Wildland Fire Safety Manager before completing her BLM career as Deputy Chief of Fire Operations for Medford. She retired from the Bureau of Land Management in 2023 and began a career with Capital Insurance Group (CIG) as their Catastrophe Risk Consultant specializing in wildfire risk assessment and modeling. Her work in wildfire led her to work with communities to reduce wildfire risk, provide structure protection during wildfires and develop mitigation plans for homes and communities.
Prior Experience: Miranda started her career with the Fremont-Winema National Forest in Oregon in 1995 as a Wildlife Biologist and an active participant in the fire program; she was with the USFS for five seasons. She served on the wildlife, timber and fire crews and conducted fire ecology research for one season on the Siskiyou NF during this period all the while continuing to work closely in fire and develop her qualifications.
Miranda accepted a position in 2000 with the Big Thicket National Preserve in Texas as their Fire Effects Monitor. After two years with the National Park Service she moved over to the US Fish and Wildlife (USFWS) Texas Mid-coast Refuge Complex to be their Fire Effects Monitor and help develop fire effects monitoring in Region 2 USFWS. Seven years on the coast with USFWS led her to the position as the Fire Operations Specialist for the Prescribed Fire Training Center (PFTC). She has an extensive background in prescribed fire and has burned throughout the outhwest, Southeast and Northwest as well as supported wildland fire operations in those Regions. Her background in wildlife management, GIS, fire ecology, ecosystem restoration and landscape management has been built from the experiences gained over the years in her career. In 2014 the NPS made a transition in staffing and Miranda moved out of PFTC and into her role of Fire Management Specialist supporting Safety, Prevention, Fuels, Medical Standards, Wildfire Reviews, Mental Health, and Training in the National Office for the National Park Service.
The Peter Anastos Quartet will be performing jazz standards and original compositions on Saturday, May 9th, at La Baguette Cafe at 340 A Street in Ashland. The band includes John Mazzei (piano), Tarik Ragab (bass), Tom Freeman (drums), and Peter Anastos (trumpet).
Join us for Trinity Heritage Days, May 9, 2026, 12-4 pm, for an Experience Honoring the Land, Peoples, and Stories of our Place. This is a free community event for all ages, with a celebration of traditional arts and foods and drop-in art, music and dance workshops with tribal artists hosted by the Nor-Rel-Muk Wintu Nation at the Highland Art Center Meadow, Chinese history at the Joss House State Historic Park, Pioneer history at the Jake Jackson Museum, and get to know the Hmong who will be sharing their culture in front of the Joss House . Opening Ceremony takes place at 11 pm. Stay tuned for further details!
The North Bend Public Library will host a free educational seminar on Saturday, May 9 at 1:00 PM, exploring the fascinating wildlife of Simpson Reef, one of the Oregon Coast’s most remarkable marine habitats. Presented by marine educators Jan Hodder and Mike Graybill, this program will introduce participants to the animals that inhabit Simpson Reef and the surrounding shoreline ecosystem. Attendees will learn about the region’s marine life and the importance of responsible wildlife viewing along the coast. After the presentation, SEA will set up scopes at Simpson Reef to allow attendees to experience the wildlife of Simpson Reef in person.
