The Archaeology Channel International Film Festival is a juried international competition in the cultural heritage film genre, bringing you the world’s best films relating to the human past and our shared cultural heritage. These are great films for the whole family!
Our Keynote Speaker, Dennis Jenkins, will kick off the event at the Festival Banquet, on May 15th at the Gordon Hotel. This is followed by four days of juried films and videos on archaeological and indigenous topics, screened in the Sheffer Recital Hall at The Shedd Institute. Join Jad D’Allura, Emeritus Professor of Geology at Southern Oregon University, and Joni Brazier, USFS Acting National Deputy Post-Fire Lead, to discuss the dramatic geological history of the Table Rocks and their unique geological features and soils along a hike to the top of this ancient lava flow.

Southern Oregon University’s Schneider Museum of Art (SMA) is thrilled to announce its upcoming exhibition, "Moving Pictures: A Survey Exhibition of Works by Deborah Oropallo and Collaborators." Opening April 18 at 5 p.m., the exhibition invites art enthusiasts to delve into the captivating world of Deborah Oropallo and witness her artistic evolution spanning montage, sculpture, installation, and media work.
More than just a retrospective, "Moving Pictures" amplifies Oropallo's artistic journey, shedding light on her significant contributions to contemporary art. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey in 1954, Oropallo received her BFA from Alfred University and her MA/MFA from the University of California at Berkeley. Initially trained as a painter, she seamlessly integrates mixed media techniques such as photomontage, video, printmaking, and painting into her practice.

Come see the incredible sculpture of 2 dynamic artists. Claire B. Jones, from Washington, takes her colorful cloth and creative stitching sculptures to new heights. These 3D sculptures surround you with light as you follow the twirls and swirls of her artwork. Running concurrently are the works of Melissa Thompson from Montana. Melissa creatures fantasy animals using fiber and mosaics, on her taxidermy art. The playful colors and textures will draw you into a world of creativity.
Southern Oregon Stitchers is a chapter of the Embroiderers Guild of America. It is a non profit organization whose goal is to educate the public about stitching and embroidery. We hold a monthly meeting that offers opportunities to learn all forms of embroidery in a friendly and sociable atmosphere with refreshments, raffles, and updates on the organization’s activities followed by members showing off their finished work. Each moth a program is offered that teaches a new project with various stitches and techniques.
