Snow close to the valley floor near Ashland, March 2021.

To hear that snowpack in our region melts earlier due to climate change surprises no one. What does surprise in recently published research is that the situation is not the same for snowpack everywhere.

In the United States, further west and further south appears to mean earlier melting of mountain snowpack than in other regions.

Amato Evan at the Scripps Institution at the University of California-San Diego is the lead author on the work; Amato visits with details of the findings.
