JPR Live Session: Joe Pug

Ways To Subscribe

Singer/songwriter Joe Pug has released four full-length albums, the latest of which, "The Flood In Color," came about during a period when he was assessing whether forging on as a touring musician meshed with his life outside of music. The tracks that ended up on the album came from a collection of over 80 newly written songs.

A chance run-in with Steve Earle early in his career helped raise Joe Pug's profile.  Pug was opening for Rhett Miller at the time, and Earle heard a set, liked what he heard, and added him as a support act for a month-long tour.  From there, Pug's intelligent songwriting and approachable personality on and off-stage have built a solid following.

In 2015, Joe Pug launched a podcast called The Working Songwriter, which is a monthly hour-long conversation with some of today's best songwriters.  Though he initial thought it might be a way of picking up tips and tricks of the trade, that's not at all what it became.

Joe was joined in the studio by Matt Wright on piano and vocals, and Charles Muench on upright bass and vocals.
