JPR Live Session: Fretland

Fretland At Home.jpg

Led by singer/songwriter Hillary Grace Fretland, the band Fretland released a pair of albums during the pandemic. Their latest, Could Have Loved You, is full of beautiful acoustic melodies and Hillary's assured vocal presence.

When Fretland's self-titled debut dropped in 2020, our ears were immediately impressed. We didn't think we'd have another full record to enjoy so soon after, but as the day-to-day of the world unfolded, that's exactly what happened.

Hillary and her bandmates (the group has scaled back from an original quintet to what is now effectively a duo) had just about wrapped up recording Could Have Loved You in January of 2021, and were preparing their first big tour when the world shut down. Instead of the tour, so instead they released a new collection of songs that are lighter in instrumentation, but darker in tone.

Hillary Fretland joined us from her home in Seattle to share some live performances she and her band recorded recently of songs from the new album.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
