JPR Live Session: Jeremiah Fraites of The Lumineers

Ways To Subscribe

The Lumineers co-founder, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites' joined us from his home in Turin, Italy share a few tunes from his new solo debut album called Piano, Piano.

A collection of songs that's been in the works for the better part of a decade, Piano Piano features gorgeous, intimate piano-centric instrumental songs. Similar in vein to the evocative music of the Esbjorn Svensson Trio, Piano, Piano features subtly-layered guitar and other sounds that help expand upon the solo piano work of Fraites.

While known primarily for his role as the drummer in the hugely successful band The Lumineers, Fraites also regularly features on piano across the band's output. With this project (the title of the album translates from Italian as 'Little By Little'), the piano steps out front and center with tender arrangements that soothe while completely avoiding genre categorization.

During the session, Fraites talked about how this music came to exist, his tricky home-recording process, and the fallout from the pandemic-related cancellation of a large Lumineers tour scheduled for 2020.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
