JPR Live Session: The Sea The Sea

Ways To Subscribe

Despite meeting many years earlier, the Troy, New York indie folk-pop duo didn't officially form until 2012, and hit big with their debut album Love We Are We Love, with NPR, American Songwriting, and No Depression all singing their praises.

There were sparks at that first meeting. Many musical, some not. But it took quite a few years before Chuck and Mira came together as a musical duo. And a few more before they became Chuck and Mira Costa.

Each born to musical families, Chuck had been trying to get a career going as a singer/songwriter while Mira had been studying musical theatre. (Incidentally, Mira's father is Ron Sowell - the music director for NPR's Mountain Stage, heard every Saturday at 3pm on JPR). They were both looking at a crossroads of a sort when Mira reached out with an offer to collaborate. It worked.

Since their debut (the title track of which featured a witty musical palindrome), The Sea The Sea has been piling up positive reviews for their lush folk/pop. Their latest, called Stumbling Home, was released in August 2020.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
