Over the course of the last two decades and seven albums, singer Kiran Ahluwalia has taken traditional Indian musical forms and blended them with modern jazz, blues, rock and R&B to create a unique sound all her own.
Born in India, but raised in Toronto, Ahluwalia has absorbed a wide range of musical influences, and her collaborations with artists ranging from the west African group Tinariwen to the Celtic fiddler Natalie MacMaster speak to the diversity of her musical personality.
Many of Ahluwalia's songs focus on exploration of the human condition, and the cultural tolerance (or intolerance) of others. Together with her 5-piece group of electric guitar, accordion, organ, tabla and drum kit, she adds ample groove to support her buoyant melodies.
Her newest album, 7 Billion, released in May of 2018, is a melding of blues, R&B, rock, and jazz with Indian vocals.
