JPR Live Session: The Commonheart

The Commonheart is an 8-piece soul band from Pittsburgh. Stocked with fantastic instrumentalists and vocalists at every spot, the band flows seamlessly through rock, soul, r&b, gospel and more on their latest album Pressure. The octet is led by Clinton Clegg - a hulking presense in the studio with a seasoned voice that barks, shouts, and growls its way through the multi-faceted repertoire. Behind him, drums, guitars, organ, piano, horns and background vocalists all combine for a energetic wall of sound. In the conversation, Clegg speaks about the difficulty of bringing such a large band on the road and making a go of it, the familial-like connection of the members, and the power of posivity to be found in the music.

Throughout Pressure (Released August 16, on Jullian Records) the band's uplifting mood and lyrics take center stage.  It's the sound of a group of friends following their dreams and trying to affect positive change.  Clegg also explains how the band got involved with two different charitiy organizations: Spare Change Pittsburgh, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation
