Bridging the worlds of indie rock, alt-country, and folk, Louisville, Kentucky native singer/songwriter Dawn Landes got her start after moving to New York to attend N.Y.U. and play music.
At 22, Landes traveled to France, where her hand-made CDs caught the attention of an indie record label that got on board to release her first album in 2005. She toured the country for a few years, learning French along the way, and picking up the songs of the great Serge Gainbourg, Francoise Hardy, and Georges Brassens. Her immersion in French culture eventually led to an album of French folks songs and nursery rhymes.
A skilled producer and engineer, Landes has worked at Stratosphere Sound in New York City and at Philip Glass' own personal recording studio. Her songs have been featured in popular films and TV shows, including Bored to Death, Skins, House, Gossip Girl and United States of Tara. She composed original scores for two feature films Blackbird and Familiar Strangers and wrote the end credit song for Savage Grace starring Julianne Moore.
In February 2014, she released her fifth full-length album, entitled Bluebird.
