Learn the use of the AED (automated external difibrilator) and basic CPR techniques that can save the life of a loved one. Presented by physician Sherry Neuman, attendees will learn key steps in emergency situations and will practice hands on techniques. This is not a certification course.
Instructor: Dr. Neuman has enjoyed a long career focused on clinical patient care. After completing her doctorate in pharmacy, she later completed medical school at the University of Nevada at Reno to become medical doctor specializing in infectious disease. She is a Jacksonville resident and is a strong proponent of preparedness and wellness activities.
This program is being offered FREE to the public – pre-registration is encouraged.

Family trees and pedigree charts provide a simple graphic format for presenting the who, when, and where of our ancestral research. But do you want a simple family tree, a horizontal pedigree chart, a fan chart, or a descendants chart? How many generations should you put on one chart? And what the heck is an ahnentafel chart? Jeanne Hoadley will explore some of the many types of ancestry charts available along with various software packages for producing them. She will also discuss the pros and cons of handwritten charts vs. computer generated ones. The class will take place from 10:30 AM until noon followed by a hands-on help session from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.Cost: $10 RVGS members, $20 non-members

Join local resident and home chef, Jerry Pendzick, as he demonstrates a favorite and flavorful stew recipe that is sure to delight! Added to some crusty French bread and you have a delicious meal. Bring a friend to share in this fun-filled afternoon. Recipes and tasting will be shared with all participants!
Instructor Bio: Upon retirement, Jerry Pendzick discovered his love for cooking. Trying new recipes and sharing them with family and friends has turned this self-taught chef into a “passionate” foodie. Jerry makes food preparation fun, easy and very tasty!

The North Bend Public Library will host a free five-week gardening series for beginners starting Saturday, January 10, from 10:00–11:30 AM. Taught by Master Gardeners™ Lynn Menashian and Mary Jo Audette, this series introduces adults to the essential skills needed to begin and maintain a successful garden on the Oregon Coast and will provide participants with foundational knowledge tailored specifically to Coos County’s climate and growing conditions. Topics include local microclimates, soil preparation, seed and plant selection, seed starting and planting techniques, transplanting, watering, and fertilization. Each class in the series is independent in topic and content, allowing participants to attend any or all sessions. The series is free and designed for adults with little to no gardening experience.
Join Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center (MSBEC) and Heart Path Field Writing Institute for a nature writing workshop where we will nourish joy and delight. Workshop leaders Evonne Ellis, MFA in Creative Writing and owner of The Heart Path, and MSBEC’s Community Education Coordinator, Kayla Marie, will guide us through writing prompts that will connect us with presence, wonder, and being amidst our busy world of doing.
