The award-winning OSU Land Steward training helps landowners learn about their property and develop a management plan. This 11-week program covers critical topics like wildfire risk reduction, forests, soil health, wildlife habitat, pasture management, stream care, water capture and distribution, and much more.

During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the federal government's Civilian Conservation Corps started out as a racially integrated program (at least in much of the country). Black enrollees arrived in southern Oregon to work on various forestry projects alongside their White fellow-CCC recruits. In many places across the nation, Black CCC men were made to feel unwelcome in rural communities, and the experiment with racial integration did not last out the first year of the CCC's nine-year existence. Jeff LaLande shares the results of his research into this little-known aspect of our region's history.

Jeff LaLande has been a resident of the Rogue Valley since 1969. He graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., and later received his M.A. in archaeology from Oregon State University and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Oregon. He had a 30-year career with the U.S. Forest Service as an archaeologist and historian, and has published articles and several books on regional history.

The monthly Windows in Time lunchtime lectures feature well-known writers and historians and bring alive the people, values, and events that shaped our southern Oregon heritage. Lectures are jointly sponsored by the Southern Oregon Historical Society (SOHS) and Jackson County Library Services. Programs are presented in Medford (first Wednesdays, in-person and online) and again in Ashland (second Wednesdays, in-person). Registration is only required to attend the Zoom version of Medford's program. Recordings of Medford presentations are available on the JCLS Beyond YouTube channel.

We have a wide assortment of food available. Bags with staple items are pre-filled, but we will gladly add any special requests if they are available. When you visit, there is always a simple lunch. On the last Wednesday of every month, we serve a pretty darned good hot meal with salad and a huge table filled with pies and desserts. We call it a community lunch. All are welcomed.

Decorate pumpkins! Use paint pens and napkin decoupage to decorate a fun and festive pumpkin to bring home for a special holiday treat!

Parents may drop off kids or stay and participate for free! Ages 6-12.

Bio: Sarah Greco is the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator at the JCC and a Jacksonville mom. With a background in early childhood education and developmental psychology, she is passionate about protecting and celebrating childhood and supporting parents in our community.

Art Academy with Alisha B. Whitman

Ages 7–11

This after school program serves as an introduction to the arts for children 7-11. Students will engage with the elements and principles of art using a variety of media including drawing, painting, and collage. Class will focus on fun as they build foundational skills and explore their endless creativity.

Evening Instructed Figure Drawing
6 sessions, Tuesdays 5–7:30pm, September 9–October 14
All skill levels welcome. All media welcome

This class will present an intuitive approach to drawing the nude human figure. We will work from the model, incorporating gesture, observation and imagination to create drawings that enhance and develop your own creative style. Beginners as well as those with experience are welcome. In addition to doing exercises in class, we will look at great drawings of the past to discern the elements that make up their beauty. I will be available to offer guidance and direction as needed, and even homework if you desire.

Members: $75, Non-members: $85

Come join us for cribbage. We are part of the American Cribbage Congress (ACC) and play 9 games of competitive cribbage every Wednesday night from September-May. $10 buy in, and we payout on the top scorecards.
