From composer Sarah Kirkland Snider (“An unerring knack for breathtaking beauty” – The NewYorker), Mass for the Endangered is a unique film presentation of a work of music, poetry, andvideo animation with art and poetry by Nathaniel Bellows. The piece is a hymn for the voicelessand the discounted, a requiem for the not-yet-gone, a prayer for endangered animals and theimperiled environments in which they live.Snider’s stunning music in the film was recorded by the award-winning British ensembleGallicantus."One of today's most compelling composers for the human voice." – NPRThe screenings will take place in the ScienceWorks Museum at 1500 E. Main St. in Ashland.The event will also include opportunities to take part in a beautiful community art project led byartist Karen Hanken and learn more about the endangered animals of our region.Showtimes: 2 PM and 3 PM
Our November 9th meeting (this Sunday) will involve an online tour of Elizabeth Zander's Connecticut garden using our (NEW!) projector. Elizabeth Zander is the website guru who orchestrates all of the NARGS online programs (NARGS is the North American Rock Garden Society). She is also a past organizer of the NARGS Seed Exchange.
She was recently interviewed for a program by a YouTube channel called Flock Finger Lakes. In the video, Elizabeth details how she and her husband replaced a lawn at their Goshen, Connecticut house with stone work, paths, and a remarkable variety of alpine plants. Goshen is located in the limestone area of Connecticut. The garden is beautiful and continues to evolve. Her creative energy will inspire you!
The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon’s Fall Concert Series concludes with a performance at 3PM on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Craterian Theater at the Collier Center in Medford. Tickets are $15 (adult/gen.) and $10 (student w/I.D. & senior). Advance tickets are available at Artistic Piano (cash/check), 112 West Main Street in Medford. Tickets are also available through the Craterian box office (541-779-3000). Tickets can be purchased at the concert.
The Youth Symphony and the Youth Orchestra will be led by the YSSO’s new music director and conductor Nathanael Hooper. The featured Youth Symphony work on the program is Scene de Ballet, Op. 100 by Charles-Auguste de Bériot. The soloist is 2025 Concerto Competition winner Amelia Hill. The concerts will also include Symphony No. 7, Allegretto by Ludwig van Beethoven, Morning from Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg, Edward Elgar’s Chanson de Nuit, Op. 15, No. 1, the fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, and arrangements of works by Verdi, Offenbach, and Tchaikovsky.

The psychedelic buddy-comedy film The Lemurian Candidate is coming to the Varsity Theater in Ashland from as part of its sold-out West Coast screening tour.
The film features Ashland-based actor Barret O’Brien, a veteran of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and star of Gary Lundgren's films "Above the Trees" and the Duplass Brothers TV series "The Long Long Night." Shot entirely on and around nearby Mt. Shasta, "The Lemurian Candidate" has already become a regional sensation, selling out three consecutive weeks of screenings at Mt. Shasta Cinemas.
