Prescribed Burns + Fire Suppression = Fewer Dead Trees

We can't stop wildfires, and it takes a long time to get many of them under control.

So our attention turns to prescribed burns... burning forest floors on purpose at low intensity, so they will not erupt later in a high-intensity fire.

Recent research by Penn State University in the Lassen National Forest shows how a combination of prescribed burns AND fire suppression can greatly reduced tree death.
