Connecting Horses With Breast Cancer Survivors, COVID-Style

Riding Beyond

The early phase of the pandemic saw a lot of non-COVID medical appointments get cancelled to reduce pressure on the healthcare system.

And it wasn't just the doctor visits that dropped off; Ashland-based Riding Beyond had to stop its therapeutic horseback-riding sessions for breast cancer survivors. Physical contact with horses was a key to the Riding Beyond method, and that's difficult to replicate in Zoom meetings.

But that's what the group has done. Director Trish Broersma and former participant Zoe Livingston talk about Riding Beyond's work through the pandemic, and what the group plans in the near future.
