No matter which days you choose for the start and end of a week, Jackson County is averaging more than 100 new COVID-19 cases per week of late. This is despite observance of Oregon mask requirements and regulations on sizes of gatherings.
And contact tracers are having trouble finding sources for the new cases, one factor that put Jackson County on the governor's "Watch List" for counties struggling to contain the virus. Failure to improve could slide the county into a more restrictive phase of "reopening."
Dr. Jim Shames, county medical director, points to gatherings of friends and family as the prime events furthering the spread. Dr. Shames joins us once a week to answer questions about the virus and its intended containment.
