Some of the earliest clusters of COVID-19 cases in the United States showed up at nursing homes and retirement centers.
That put pressure on similar facilities to change practices to protect residents and staff. In most cases, that meant family could not visit face-to-face with loved ones in aging facilities, except through windows.
We bring in guests from several organizations to discuss the current situation and the outlook. Fred Steele is Oregon's Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Ruby Haughton is State Director for AARP Oregon. And Ann McQueen works in the division of the Oregon Department of Human Services that licenses long-term care facilities and adult foster homes.
