Scientists Urge Greater Regs On Recreational Fishing

USEPA Environmental-Protection-Agency, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=28266726

The image of the factory ship with huge nets scooping fish out of the ocean is a powerful one, and commercial fisheries are generally regulated.  Not so with recreational fisheries.

And a group of scientists says that's a mistake, because there are significant impacts from the millions of people who fish for pleasure.

The scientists make their case in an opinion piece just published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).  Ray Hilborn from the University of Washington is one of the scientists; he is our guest.
