But the party's "all power to the people" approach was widely misunderstood and feared, and the subject of investigation and infiltration by the FBI.
Bobby Seale was there for all of it, and is still around to talk about it.
Seale was a founder of the BPP, and he now brings his message and memories to college audiences.
