JPR Live Session: säje

Ways To Subscribe

Formed by the fabulous vocalist Sara Gazarek and three of her talented friends - Amanda Taylor, Johnaye Kendrick, and Erin Bentlage - the brand new jazz vocal supergroup known as säje (rhymes with “beige”) was just getting their feet under them with a handful of performances when the pandemic shutdown halted their progress.

Not to be deterred, the talented ladies have continued to collaborate from their remote locations, all with an eye towards releasing a debut sometime in 2021. Gazarek joined us from her home in Los Angeles to talk about how the group came together and whether 'jazz' is the right description for the kind of music they create.

With a widely diverse repertoire that stretched from traditional jazz standards to pop tunes, säje shared a few tunes that showcase their intricate arrangements and creative interpretations.

As FM Network Program Director and Music Director, Eric oversees many aspects of JPR's broadcast day. He still hosts the occasional Open Air or classical music shift, and is the driving force behind JPR Live Sessions - our popular series of live in-studio music performances and conversations.
