From Rogue Bonsai: "With the changing season, and the Ashland Japanese garden as our backdrop, the Rogue Bonsai group is pleased to present a display of trees in transition. We find this time of the year to be yet another opportunity to understand the nature of our bonsai as they experience the process of abscission, as their colorful foliage beautifully transforms and falls just before entering a period of rest and preservation. A diverse variety of trees will be presented to demonstrate the differing ways that each tree experiences this process."

With the surge of Victorian literature on our screens and shelves, see if you can survive in society with calling cards, fan flirtation, and proper manners. Presenter Carolyn Kingsnorth will help you learn more about these rules and how to break them.
When Carolyn Kingsnorth moved to Jacksonville 20 years ago after a career in marketing management, she fell in love with the historical gold mining town and finally found a use for her BA in History. She has spent much of her "retirement" creating activities, programs, tours, and events that share the stories of the miners, farmers, and merchants who settled the Rogue Valley. She is currently a board member of the Southern Oregon Historical Society and President of Historic Jacksonville, Inc. In both capacities, her stated goal is to "bring history to life". She frequently points out, "History is not the names, dates, places, and battles we may have learned for school tests. It's the people and their stories - they tell us why we are who we are."
Not often does live music come to the town of Coquille, but on Saturday November 1st multiple musical acts will descend on the sleepy Coos county seat to awaken the spirits and townsfolk alike. Gracing the pink-clad theater in downtown Coquille will be three of the best music acts in all of the south coast:
Tiller of the Moon is a group of musicians hailing from Coos Bay to Myrtle Point. They blend midwestern roots with classic west-coast folk to create a catchy, modern sound that is equal parts folk, country, and indie rock. They have three albums available everywhere you find music: Waiting Game, Congratulations, and Wasson. You can find more information at tillerofthemoon.com
Micha or Whatever is a singer-songwriter located outside of Coquille. She draws inspiration from various genres of music. Her sound is eclectic, ranging from Randy Newman-esque piano ballads dressed in irony to synthy melodies fit for movie scores. Her music exudes emotional undertones, often in juxtaposition to the lyrical content. She is busy recording her first album, Things are Getting Weird. You can find her music at youtube.com/@MichaOrWhatever
Tbird and the Way it is is a group of Oregon coast musicians from Port Orford to Coos Bay, who have been defying genres and rural small town norms together for over a decade. Led by singer and songwriter, Tbird, the group has recently released their debut album, Feel This Way, this past August. Listen to their music at tbirdandthewayitis.bandcamp.com
And don't discard those Halloween costumes from the previous night's festivities, as there will be a costume contest, and the winner will take home a prize basket full of locally made treats from Farmstead Bread, Wild Coast Brew, and more.
