Join Siskiyou Singers as we visit the concept of beauty through the words of Emily Dickinson and four of her poems on that theme. Each section of our concerts — Heaven, Nature, Spirit, and Infinity — will open with a corresponding Dickinson poem, set to music by the brilliant American composer Alice Parker.
Performances will be at SOU’s Music Recital Hall in Ashland at 7:30 pm Saturday, May 4, and 3 pm Sunday, May 5. General admission is $25 ($5 for students and Oregon Trail Card holders). Tickets are available from choir members; at Music Coop or Paddington Station in Ashland; and online at siskiyousingers.org.
These performances will serve as a preview of our choir’s concert tour of Italy this June. Among the pieces we will be sharing with audiences here and in Europe: Aaron Copland’s ethereal setting of “At the River”; “Nootka Paddle Song,” based on a welcoming chant by the indigenous people of British Columbia; Joshua Shank’s euphoric “The Boy Who Picked Up His Feet to Fly”; and “The Pasture,” adapted from the poetry of Robert Frost.
