Taste of OLLI: The African-American Experience in History and Poetry
As part of a free, public Summer Speakers Series titled A Taste of OLLI that is sponsored by Osher Lifelong Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Southern Oregon University, “The African-American Experience in History and Poetry" will be presented by Lorenzo Taylor, who was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and witnessed the civil rights movement in that city. After retirement from a career in public health policy and intercultural exchange, he has become a playwright, poet, novelist, and OLLI instructor. His talk will trace the Civil Rights movement from its beginnings to the current day protests for racial equality and explore the social contexts and literary qualities of activist African American poetry. The program will be provided via Zoom on Tuesday, July 27, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Registration is required to obtain a Zoom link. Visit inside.sou.edu/olli to sign up.
