Talk: Rose Care in the Rogue Valley
January 17, Rose Care in the Rogue Valley, Susan Koenig
Susan is a life-long gardener. She has loved roses ever since she discovered, at the age of 4, her mother's Mister Lincoln rose with its deep red color and amazing fragrance. She began her first rose garden in 1980 in Oakland California with the guidance of Tom Lane, a local rosarian. It grew to over 40 roses in Oakland's deep clay soil. Since moving to the Rogue Valley, she has planted over 60 roses, including old garden roses like Ispahan and Konigen von Denmark, modern Hybrid T's, climbers and floribundas of every color. Over the years, she has learned how to prevent black spot, prune and fertilize and how to incorporate roses into a residential landscape. In addition to roses, Susan has a large vegetable garden, an orchard and many trees on her 3/4 acre of paradise.
