PAS PRESENTS: CLASSICS & CREATIONS
Skilled music students and a piano instructor from the Chico, CA, area will present a variety of familiar classics and their own compositions, including improvisations. Performers include students of the late Dr. Robert Bowman, also Justin McKay and Li-Yuan Ho. Calvin and Matthew Nguyen will play piano 4-hands, with Alex Nguyen piano 6-hands; Benjamin Breed offers Chopin and Debussy; Qinyi Zheng a Mozart piano concerto; violinist Sasha Iwabuchi Fomin chooses Mendelssohn and Bach; Devin Cheng engages in Beethoven. Instructor McKay, a specialist in partimento and classical improvisation, tops off the program with an improvised fugue and a very special piece—his own harpsichord suite! Our program represents music study as a living tradition, in which performers play not only classic works from musical tradition, but also create their own sounds. It will be a first of its type for Performing Arts Society of Redding!
