Long Tom Watershed Council Public Meetings – Forestry & Climate Change, a 2-Part Presentation
LTWC is partnering with OSU Extension to present a two-part series on how climate change is affecting the forestry community and decisions facing timber owners in managing working forests on July 27 and August 10, including a video with small woodland owner, educator, and LTWC board member Lindsay Reaves of Bauman Tree Farm. Part 1 of the two-part series on July 27 features David Shaw and Glenn Howe. Shaw, biologist, forest health specialist and professor, will share how climate change increases forests’ susceptibility to infestations, why pests and disease increase with hotter, drier conditions and what timber owners can do to mitigate an infestation. Howe, associate professor at OSU and director of the Pacific Northwest Tree Improvement Research Cooperative, will discuss how a changing climate may impact the tree species composition in our forests and what are some considerations and resources for landowners when deciding which species to replant.
