Ah, love. The beautiful old songs tell us that love makes the world go ‘round. Love is all we need. Love is the answer.

True enough! But, so is the following: there are many kinds of love.

So, when most of us hear these old songs, we think of one kind of love – romantic love. But sincere aspirants of the higher life seek something more: our heart of hearts longs to realize a conscious relationship with a Divine order of love, one that can’t be turned into some form of disappointment, or make us fall into despair, let alone live with the fear of its loss.

Which isn’t to say we don’t treasure the love of people who are central to our lives, or the love of a pet, the love of a calling, of an art. But it’s that higher love that stands behind and is greater than them all. It is the love our hearts long for the most. And to prepare ourselves to know this love is our primary purpose on earth.

We’re talking about Divine Love.
