Eagle Point: Maryum’s Yellow Rose Quilt: An Oregon Trail Story

Eagle Point: Maryum’s Yellow Rose Quilt: An Oregon Trail Story

Maryum McKee brought yellow rose shoots with her on the long journey from Missouri to Oregon in 1853. She planted these on a rude homestead out in the Applegate and neighbors propagated the rose throughout the valley. To commemorate Maryum’s journey, the Jacksonville Museum Quilters handcrafted a quilt in 1984 that is a historical representation of the John McKee family and Maryum’s treasured yellow rose. The Jacksonville Museum Quilters gifted this quilt to the Rogue Valley Genealogical Library in 2015. In this special local history event, Anne Billeter will show how Maryum’s Yellow Rose Quilt reflects a woman’s life and a family’s history. Billeter serves as President of the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society

This program is co-sponsored by the Eagle Point Historical Society and the Eagle Point Branch of Jackson County Library Services thanks in part to an Oregon Heritage grant to the Gold Hill Historical Society. The Eagle Point Branch of JCLS is located at 239 West Main Street in Eagle Point and is open daily except Sundays. For more information contact Shari Lawson 541-261-7756 shari_l@yahoo.com
