ANN and the Siskiyou Crest Coalition are happy to host Michael Kauffmann, Humboldt County educator, author, and ecologist. Michael has been tracking the status and distribution of Klamath Mountain conifers for over 15 years and his book, Conifer Country, is the definitive field guide to conifers in the region. Michael will take us from mountain summits to coastal river valleys and provide updates on the status and distribution of many of these charismatic conifers based on field work with the California Native Plant Society Vegetation Team. He will also share photos and stories about exciting plants from the region. Michael Kauffmann is a kindergarten through college educator in Humboldt County where he lives with his wife and two young boys. He has served as an ecologist with the CNPS Vegetation Program mapping rare conifers including whitebark pine, yellow-cedar, Pacific silver fir, and bigcone Douglas-fir. He is also the author of Conifer County, Conifers of the Pacific Slope, and Field Guide to Manzanitas.
