Growing up the child of a working singer/songwriter (Pierce Pettis) and a poetry scholar (Dr. Margaret Mills Harper), it is perhaps no surprise that Grace Pettis became a musician and songwriter herself.
For her new album Working Woman, Pettis made a decision to only include women at every step of its creation. She employed an all-star crack of female musicians, recording engineers, producers, and even the graphic artists to helped with the packaging.
Pettis joined us from her home in Austin to play a few tunes from the new album, including the beautiful song Landon. Written as an apology to her best friend (who is gay), on behalf of a younger version of herself, the song resonates as a poignant reminder of the importance of unconditional love for those you hold most dear.
We also talked about her second love (maybe first love?) — Star Trek.
