The Klamath River country is where Louis Wagenknecht grew up, and that's where she wanted to be after she got out of college.
The stars aligned, and she ended up working for the Klamath National Forest. Not only were forest practices changing, but so were the practitioners: Louise was one of the first women to work in the woods, eventually planting trees and fighting fires.
Her tales of those days complete a trilogy of books, with the release of Shadows on the Klamath: A Woman In the Woods.
We converse with Louise about her experiences.
