Exchange Exemplar: How we sit pretty and beg for attention from our dogs

Maybe you're not feeling the love so much when the dog wants to go out for a walk in the rainy pre-dawn darkness. But the rest of the time... oh boy, do we love our pets in America.

And we think we understand them, but that says at least as much about how human brains work as it does about dog brains.

Alexandra Horowitz studies the working of dog brains at the Dog Cognition Lab in New York City, and shares the findings with the general public in her books.

She visited on several occasions, mostly recently in 2019 to talk about Our Dogs, Ourselves: The Story of a Singular Bond.

Get the dog to stop barking at the delivery truck long enough to listen to details of the dog-human bond.
