July 5 | Happy Independence Day (Plus 1): Enjoy The Exemplars

british_american_flag_diagonal_swipe.png

One of these days, we might have an Independence Day like in days of (not-so) old: with parades and fireworks and all that. Pandemic and drought messed up July 4th last year and this for parts of our region.

One thing we can agree on: Monday, July 5th is the off-day for the holiday. So the JX team presents two Exchange Exemplars for the day.

At 8: a real plan for a utopian society, in the book Work, Love, and Learning in Utopia: Equality Reimagined.

At 9: heading for the mountains for a roughing-it kind of life. Karen Auvinen got more than she bargained for, a story she tells in Rough Beauty: Forty Seasons of Mountain Living.
