Getting The News Business To Reflect The American People

More than a third of the U.S. population is not white. But you would not know it to visit the average newsroom at an American news organization.

Even in majority-minority cities, the major newspapers still staff their operations with a majority of white people. And this is decades after they pledged to move toward more equitable hiring practices.

Nick Charles follows the trend, or lack of trend, as Managing Director of the website Word in Black. He visits with details of the ongoing issue, and his organizations approach to changing it.
