Disease-Bearing Ticks May Be Near The Beach, Too

Catching a disease from a tick bite is a real concern. Lyme Disease gets the headlines, but it is only one infection that can make a human ill.

Just avoiding the woods where ticks hang out may not be as good an avoidance strategy as we thought. New research funded by the Bay Area Lyme Foundation shows disease-bearing ticks fairly common in coastal environments like chaparral, too.

Daniel Salkeld and Tanner Porter wrote the paper; Tanner tells us where they looked and exactly what they found.
