Environmental Groups Threaten To Sue To Protect Chinook Salmon

It can be hard to keep track of all the various species and runs of fish that do and do not have federal protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Umpqua Watersheds and two other environmental groups, the Center for Biological Diversity and the Native Fish Society, have perfect clarity on that front. The groups recently announced their intention to sue the federal government to protect Oregon Coast spring-run Chinook salmon under the Endangered Species Act.

ESA sets a one-year timeline for acting on petitions, and the petition was filed in September 2019. Reps from the groups in favor of protection join us for an overview.
