The Almeda Drive fire got all the headlines because of its massive destructive of homes (nearly 2500), but it was not the only fire in Jackson County in September 2020.
The South Obenchain Fire also forced evacuations and also destroyed homes and other structures, though not as many. What it did destroy a lot of was trees, and Meghan Montgomery and Clint Nichols at the Jackson Soil & Water Conservation District have been working to help landowners restore their land and protect it from erosion.
Montgomery and Nichols helped landowners obtain straw and seeds to bring vegetation back, and have worked closely with the Oregon Department of Forestry on hazard-tree clearing and other efforts. We get an audio overview of life after Obenchain.
