Joe Biden being sworn in as Vice President, 2013.

It was pretty much a given that a few more major news stories would break between the first of the year and January 20th, the date of the presidential inauguration.

But we didn't count on both an attack on the U.S. Capitol and a second impeachment of President Trump. At Noon eastern time, Trump gets a prefix (ex- or former-), and Joe Biden loses a suffix: -elect.

Since the event only comes once every four years, a claim even the Olympics can no longer make, the Exchange stands aside in favor of inauguration coverage from NPR. We're back on the day after the transfer of power.
