Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965.
AP
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1965.

White supremacists hated him. Law enforcement people monitored, hassled, and arrested him. Even people who wanted greater rights for Black Americans urged him to take a softer approach.

Martin Luther King, Jr. pushed and pushed for civil rights, and the effort cost him his life. So today we observe the birthday of the man and count the accomplishments of the human being.

The JX takes the day off, replaying some previous interviews about the quest for equality in America... a quest that continues to this day.
