Author Offers Kids 65 Ideas For 'How To Be A Person'

Christiaan Briggs/Wikimedia

Your kid is not great at picking up after herself, and isn't terribly social.

But she does like to read, and THERE'S an opportunity. Catherine Newman wrote a book to seize that opportunity, a true "how-to" book: How to Be a Person: 65 Hugely Useful, Super-Important Skills to Learn before You're Grown Up.

It starts with basics like caring for other people and pets, and moves into subject areas like cleaning up, fixing up, and fixing meals (not just toasting Pop-Tarts).

Catherine Newman talks about the book's genesis and intended use in a visit to the JX.
