The second of this fall's major political debates, between vice-presidential candidates, happens on Wednesday, October 7. It could not possibly be as aggressive and chaotic as the first presidential debate, but it's something we need to discuss on this month's edition of our media overview, Signals & Noise.
We welcome back our regulars, Chris Lucas from the Southern Oregon University Communication faculty and Humboldt State University Journalism Chair Victoria Sama. It's not all about politics in the media (though we could spend hours on that).
Join us for a discussion that can include topics as disparate as virtual reality cinema and the best Jane Austen books.
We did not get this month's Pick Three choices on the air (host error {sorry!}), but here's Vicky's List:
- predictit.org betting on who will win the presidential election and other issues... place your bets.
- purpleair.com and airnow.gov detail the air quality index of anywhere in the nation and the world. Find out the health rating in your area and what it means.
- And journalism.org to find out what Americans think about the news.
And Chris's Pick Three list, all diversions from the heaviness of the moment:
- Today (October 8th) and tomorrow at AIFF's Varsity World Film Weeks - The Reason I Jump, a magical documentary about living with Autism. https://www.ashlandfilm.org/
- On Netflix, "My Octopus Teacher," a heartwarming doc about a diver that befriends an octopus over the course of a year.
- And finally, this viral Tiktok musical number about arguing in a grocery store. No, really, it'll make your dayhttps://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/tanyachen/epic-tiktok-chain-musical-fighting-in-a-grocery-store
