We've gotten all too familiar with fire in the region, but there are other hazards that could disrupt life here. Earthquakes loom large among those hazards, with the Cascadia Subduction Zone lurking at the meeting of two tectonic plates under the ocean.
A smartphone app called Temblor allows users to pinpoint their locations on a map and get a reading of the earthquake risk there. Ross Stein, a scientist formerly with U.S. Geological Survey, cofounded Temblor, Inc.
